Dear Fellow Author,
Welcome and thank you for joining our organization! Founded in 1912, the Authors Guild is the nation's oldest and largest professional organization of writers. Our mission is to support working writers both through our advocacy efforts — championing free speech, fighting for better contracts and fair compensation, and lobbying for more effective copyright protections — and through the practical benefits we offer, such as legal help, educational seminars, liability insurance, web services, and more. We fight to protect your rights as a writer and provide you with the guidance you need to make decisions about the business side of writing.
This welcome guide provides an overview of our benefits and how you can take advantage of the many resources we offer. We also encourage you to visit our website (authorsguild.org) to learn more about our current advocacy efforts. Now that you are a member, you have full access to the members-only section of the website, so feel free to explore more resources not covered here. If you have any questions about membership or benefits, please contact us.
It is our hope that you will become an active member of our community and take advantage of the opportunities you can offer one another by participating in our online forums, getting involved in your local chapter, and building your online profile so others can get to know you better. One of your greatest resources is each other, and we hope that you will forge connections with your fellow members.
Remember that we are here to help at every stage of your writing career, whether you are still in school, have just started seeking publication, or are already published. You are our future, and we hope to accompany you on your journey for many years to come.
